KLT Hunting Stand Guidelines

KLT allows hunting stands (tree ladders and observation stands) and ground blinds on specified fee-owned properties under the following conditions:

  1. Permission is granted annually by KLT. Contact KLT to gain permission.

  2. All applicable state and local laws are adhered to, as well as all KLT policies (e.g., no motorized vehicle use, no un-authorized cutting of vegetation).

  3. Hunting stands/blinds are clearly labeled, in accordance with Maine State law, with the names and addresses of everyone authorized to use the stand.

  4. Hunting stands/blinds are at least three hundred (300) feet away from established KLT trails (maps with 300-foot trail buffers can be provided for guidance if requested).

  5. Hunting stands/blinds are allowed starting two weeks before deer hunting season begins and ending two weeks after it ends (includes archery and muzzleloader seasons). Stands may not remain on KLT land outside of this window.

  6. Hunting stands must not damage the tree and must be secured by non-invasive and temporary means only (e.g., no metal fasteners placed into the tree, do not damage bark, etc.).

  7. Please be courteous to other hunters and other recreationalists when placing and using stands/blinds.

Game cameras and other structures are NOT allowed on KLT fee lands.

Failure to comply with these guidelines can result in the removal of the hunting stand/blind without notice, but we will contact you if your contact information is present. KLT retains sole discretion on whether a stand/blind complies with this policy. KLT bears no responsibility for lost or damaged stands.

Note: Maine law requires hunters to obtain verbal or written permission of the landowner (or representative) to erect or use a portable or permanent ladder or observation stand, and the ladder or observation stand must be plainly labeled with a 2-inch by 4-inch tag with the names and addresses of everyone the landowner has authorized to use it.
