Calling all volunteers and slingshot enthusiasts! Join Kennebec Land Trust staff and volunteers to collect Black Ash (Fraxinus nigra) seeds on KLT land and around our service area. Black Ash (also known as Brown Ash) is critically endangered due to the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive insect.

It is culturally important to Wabanaki people in addition to its ecological importance. This is the first good year for seeds in a long time, and might be one of the last. We will collect seeds to distribute to Federal seed banks and genetic diversity programs, the UMaine lab working on ash conservation (APCAW), and Tribal nation's conservation/nursery programs.

Likely seed collection sites include Reynolds Forest, Echo Lake Watershed Preserve, Bearnstow, and a few private landowners in the area. If you are aware of any Black Ash on KLT properties (or on your property if you are open to seed collection!), please reach out to AJ.
